SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry, working together, to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Here's how
you can help

Ask if your local high school or technical center participates in SkillsUSA. If not, talk to a counselor, school administrator or instructor about starting a chapter. If you need assistance contact your SkillsUSA State Association Director.

If your local high school or technical center has a local chapter ask the chapter advisor how you can help.

Presentation
for Parents

The face of today's employment market is changing and skills are the ticket to a young person's success. At the same time, a shortage of skilled workers has created unprecedented job opportunities. Businesses cite the shortage of skilled workers as their number one problem. In addition, employers are desperately in search of employees with good communications, teamwork ability, interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.

And let's face it, in the not-so-distant future, your child will be a part of this work force. So how are you helping your child prepare for a successful future?

Help them prepare with career and technical education and SkillsUSA.

Why Career and Technical Education?
A career and technology based education will help your child to be more than just an average student. Career and technology education can give your child what's needed to succeed for life: technical skills, academic skills and employability skills. In addition, career and technical education helps students see how what they're learning applies to the needs of employers.

Regardless of whether students are headed for college or the work force, this type of education will help them prepare for the future. In fact, college-bound students can get job experiences to help them define their career plans, identify an appropriate course of study and help pay for tuition.

Just think of the benefits your child will receive by gaining not only a solid foundation in academics, but also hands-on, technical experience and know-how.

Leadership and Community Service
Leadership training is a key part of the SkillsUSA experience. Your child can put new leadership skills into practice with SkillsUSA service programs. Students design and run these programs (covering everything from mentoring younger students to cleaning up a public park) to meet their own community needs.
